Sophie, aka SpookySo
Tattoo artist at The Backrooms Studio in Andenne. Black and grey, fine line and dark styles, worked person to person.
« I'm Sophie, tattoo artist at The Backrooms Studio in Andenne. I work in black and grey, fine line and dark styles. I take my time: every project starts with a real conversation, and nothing goes on the skin until the drawing is exactly right. »
The drawing comes before the needle, always. What draws her in: old engravings, herbaria, cabinets of curiosities, anything built on precise black and patience. What she refuses: inking a design she doesn't believe in, or rushing one session to squeeze in another.
The studio is welcoming and calm, and we understand each other in French and English (occasionally Dutch), from the first conversation to the final touch-up.
Three principles, not one more
The conversation first
A project starts with what you have in mind, not with a slot in a calendar. We talk, we draw, we adjust. The needle waits its turn.
One drawing, one person
Nothing is taken from a catalogue, nothing is tattooed twice. The flashes themselves are one-off pieces: sold once, archived for good.
The time it takes
A session lasts as long as it needs to. Breaks are part of the work, and so is healing: the follow-up doesn't stop when you leave the studio.
The Backrooms Studio
Rue Brun 46, in Andenne. A welcoming studio, by appointment: you're expected at the agreed time, never in a queue.
Clean, logged, signed
Everything that touches the skin is sterile, single-use and opened in front of you, then discarded after each session in a DASRI sharps collector. Before each session, you sign an informed consent that covers the protocol, the contraindications and the aftercare.
Questions about a specific point in the protocol? You get it in writing before the session, and Sophie is happy to answer beforehand.
The ledger
The sketchbooks
Years of drawing before the first needle: copied engravings, herbaria, black ink on paper. The line first.
The apprenticeship
Training in the craft, hygiene and technique: learning to put on skin what paper used to forgive.
The Backrooms Studio
Settling in Andenne, Rue Brun 46. A welcoming studio, made to work slowly and well.
Today
Fine line, blackwork and dark styles, in four languages, for projects that take the time to be right.
